I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the very foundation of any effective psychotherapy. Establishing rapport and trust is central to the work I do. My relational approach is in the service of helping clients feel safe enough to explore their feelings and express them as they gain comfort in the therapy. I have almost thirty years of experience providing individual psychotherapy, and have been working specifically with students at UCD for the past twenty years. My training is in psychodynamic, relational psychotherapy and my approach is to be interactive in the therapy process. I have learned over the years that ultimately what brings a person to therapy has to do with having been wounded in a significant relationship, past or present. It is in the process of bringing the experience to light, making feelings conscious, understanding them better, and grieving when necessary allows healing to happen. This process happens within the context of the therapeutic relationship.
