I help clients identify the underlying beliefs shaping their lives and decide if these beliefs are serving them. Beliefs like:
"My parents will only love me if I become a doctor"
or
"I don't know which path to choose so I won't choose one at all."
We then decide if these beliefs are serving them or if they'd like to create new ones, such as:
"I know my parents will love me if I change majors"
or
"I trust that whichever path I choose will teach me a lot."
Identifying underlying beliefs allows clients agency over their stories, and often reveals peripheral addictions (such as overeating or overdrinking) that have been used to buffer. Clients often experience improvement of these addictive tendencies as well.
