My initial goal when I meet new clients is to clarify with them why they are seeking my assistance. We work together to identify changes they want to see in their lives. Often finding new ways of approaching situations and relieving anxiety/stress can make a significant difference. Sometimes clients need concrete resources to help them achieve their goals. These resources can come in the form of learning new time management strategies or assertiveness techniques. Another resource is to utilize organizations on campus or in the Davis community. I frequently refer my clients to organizations or activities in the community that I think may be of help in achieving their objectives. In general, my approach to working with my clients would be considered coaching. It involves learning new skills, practicing, getting feedback and more practice. The coaching approach can be successful in many areas of life. It is the one approach that can provide immediate results.
