Saenz, Shane Psy.D.

Dr. Shane Saenz (pronounced"Signs") is a Clinical and Sport Psychologist who has been providing mental health services since 2013. Dr. Saenz has experience working with people from all backgrounds, including treating adults, adolescents, children, families, and athletes, having worked in various settings, such as correctional facilities, university counseling centers, and private practice. He also completed specialized training in Sport Psychology at UC Davis Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS), where he provided comprehensive services in SHCS, as well as Inter-Collegiate Athletics (ICA). Dr. Saenz has received training at some of the country’s most rigorous institutions. He received his BA in Psychology from UC Santa Cruz; M.Ed. in Counseling (Sport Psychology emphasis) from Boston University; and his Psy.D. from the University of Denver Graduate School of Professional Psychology. During his internship and post-doctoral residency at UC Davis SHCS as a member of the Sport Psychology team, he specialized in the treatment of athletes through individual mental health services; individual performance consultations; group workshops and performance meetings; and consultations with coaches and various ICA staff. He also co-led groups on Eating Disorders as well as mindful meditation. Currently, he is in private practice in Davis, CA and a Staff Psychologist II at the University of the Pacific (UOP) Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Dr. Saenz supervises residents in clinical psychology and sport psychology. Dr. Saenz approaches treatment from an integrative theory, incorporating aspects of psychodynamic, contextual behaviorism, mindfulness and family systems perspective. He additionally includes values and a multicultural lens and is seasoned in the treatment of a range of difficulties including, but not limited to depression, anxiety, PTSD, learning disabilities, and grief/loss in adolescents and adults. He is a lifelong learner and practitioner who is passionate about mental health, philosophy, psychology.
