How I Work With Clients:
My philosophy as a Clinical Psychologist is to meet my clients where they are and to bring as much clarity as possible to what they really want out of their lives. The beauty of psychotherapy is that it provides a unique and safe space to develop a deeper, more informed experience of yourself, so that you can make those choices that best support your needs. I honor and embrace the full scope of the human condition that each of us encounters and I work to make space for all of it my practice. Research has shown (and I agree) that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor for therapeutic success. Therefore, I strive to develop a safe, respectful and compassionate relationship with my clients where I can give and receive direct, honest, and meaningful feedback. I share openly my perspectives about what I see happening in the therapy process and I am committed to staying in an intentional dialogue about how best to help my clients meet their needs. I work collaboratively with my clients and encourage active participation in the therapeutic process. I am flexible and pragmatic in using my knowledge, skills, abilities and intuition when working with clients and I integrate current research and a range of theoretical orientations in my practice (relational, attachment, developmental, neurobiological, cognitive-behavioral, and more). I hold a deep belief in the process of psychotherapy and the potential for change that it holds. I welcome you to the process and look forward to hearing from you.

How I Work With Clients:
I work with clients holistically--understanding people as individuals in contexts who hold multiple intersecting identities. My approach is informed by Gestalt therapy, Relational-Cultural therapy, and Mindfulness. I use a strength-based/empowerment, collaborative, non-judgemental approach that is trauma sensitive. I have training in teaching yoga and meditation and have an ongoing personal practice. I often work with clients who are disconnected from their bodies and incorporate somatic and mindful interventions to increase brain/body/mind integration and strengthen inner resources for emotional/nervous system regulation. I'm trained as a generalist and refer clients with significant substance use/dependence to specialists. I'm currently taking referrals for individual therapy only. I have extensive training around disordered eating and my approach is treatment team centered and emphasizes mindfulness, intuitive eating, and health at every size. I work with the emotional, cognitive, somatic, and behavioral aspects of eating disorders. I co-facilitate a group for women in recovery from disordered eating with Debbie Glander. I work extensively with clients who identify as Trans*/Gender Non-Binary. I offer assessments and letters related to the current WPATH Standards of Care for healthcare services (e.g., hormone therapy, surgeries). I work extensively with the queer community and with people in a broad range of relationship structures (e.g., open relationships, polyamory). I'm an out-of-network provider who can provide statements for insurance reimbursement. I offer a limited number of negotiated low fee slots.

How I Work With Clients:
I have been working in the fields of mental health and addiction since 1987. I received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and Specialization in Alcohol and Other Drugs from John F. Kennedy University in 1989. I earned my doctorate in 2003 from the Wright Institute in Berkeley. While a student at the Wright Institute, I became excited about Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Because of its effectiveness, I have been using DBT in my clinical practice for the past 10 years. I am currently in private practice in Auburn and Davis California and have experience working with individuals, couples, and families from many cultures, religions, and alternative lifestyles. While having counseling with me you would experience someone who is said to be compassionate, open hearted, broad minded, and flexible. Over the years I have been trained in many different theoretical approaches and models. At this stage of my career, I can say that I am truly integrative in my approach. While working with you I might use techniques from Family Systems Theory, Family/Marital Therapy, Control Mastery Theory, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in order to help you heal from the challenges you are experiencing. Click here to learn more about the above approaches. For eight years I was the Regional Clinical Director for Aegis Medical Systems. For several years I served on Board of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. For the last 5 years I have been on the Board of the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group and am currently the Board President. Additionally, have been providing ongoing supervision, consultation, and mentorship to psychology students and clinicians for over 23 years.

How I Work With Clients:
Hi there! Welcome to one more step in your search for the life you want. Therapy is one way to increase joy, be reminded of whats wonderful about yourself, and overcome the barriers that have blocked you in the past. It also gives you the tools to continue that process. Collaboratively we strengthen your sense of worth so that you have the energy and motivation to work toward your personal goals. Increasing self-compassion and awareness frees an individual from the habits or ruts we all tend to dip into in life. I have worked with clients for the past 13 years to help them achieve their dreams. I use aspects of psychodynamic psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Positive Psychology, and humanistic views in my work with people. Learning strategies of mindfulness and relaxation breathing are also very helpful as you learn to directly impact your experience. I specialize in working with psychosis and schizophrenia, including voice hearing and extreme beliefs (traditionally called auditory hallucinations and delusions). Understanding how someone responds in such intense experiences provides insight to all people in moments of pain. I also have experience with people who identify as having a bipolar diagnosis, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.

How I Work With Clients:
I became a therapist because I was able to personally experience the power of therapy. My experience has allowed me to witness the resiliency of the human spirit, the ability we all share to grow and thrive, and the impact of having a guide along the way. It is not often that one is able to be really, truly heard. I know that everyone has their own story and that every story deserves to be heard. Your life matters! As a therapist, I want to hear your story, and I want to be the guide that helps you on that path toward healing. I believe that having a non-judgmental, caring, and safe space where one can share their experience is key to therapy. In fact, research even shows that the supportive relationship developed between the client and therapist is the biggest key to healing! If you choose to work with me in therapy, you can expect that we will work at your own pace. I will be a guide that helps you on your path to find your inner strength, happiness, and peace. If this sounds like what you need, contact me today!

How I Work With Clients:
EFFECTIVE DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY TREATMENT FOR BUSY, GOAL-ORIENTED PEOPLE I'm Daren Casagrande (LMFT92438). I started Clarity Counseling with one thing in mind: to help people with depression and anxiety feel meaningful relief from pain and suffering as quickly as possible. After 10+ years working in non-profit and for-profit mental health organizations I grew frustrated that it took so long for people to experience relief from suffering related to treatable mental health disorders. This isn't to say that faster is always better, but when it comes to significantly reducing suffering - faster did seem important if the results were genuine and lasting. What makes Clarity Counseling different is that we use evidenced base therapies like CBT within a powerful therapeutic framework for conducting evidence-based therapy developed by Stanford psychologist, Dr. David Burns. quickly realized the incredible power of his methods (TEAM-CBT) and their ability to add a critical dimension to my therapeutic practice. Those skills in conjunction with a unique session structure are what makes Clarity different. I would be honored if you would be willing to entrust myself or my team with your mental health and I sincerely believe you will be happy with the results if you're motivated to put the work in outside of session. Catalyst Intensive Option A single 2-hour session for 4 weeks to achieve rapid results, it heavily relies on a strict adherence to the TEAM-CBT method. This requires a greater financial and time commitment (in and out of sessions). It is generally focused on 1-2 major concerns. Due to it's brevity, it can also be more emotionally intense to go through. These sessions come with our Clarity Promise: if you're not satisfied you will be refunded 50% of the cost. Wishing You Well, Daren Casagrande, LMFT92438

How I Work With Clients:
Specialize in working with polyamorous/non-monogamous individuals as well as kink/BDSM and other alternative relationships. Sex positive and LGBTQIA+ affirmative. I focus my efforts in therapy on instilling resilience and wellness for you internally as well as externally in your relationships. Some examples of what this might look like include: acting in congruence with your boundaries and ethics; "owning your shit" and taking responsibility for managing your emotions without displacing them onto others; identifying and communicating your needs and desires in relationships; cultivating compassion, curiosity, and mindfulness; and progressively taking risks that allow your vulnerable side to be seen, heard, and valued. I’m excited to help polyamorous and other students be more resilient in themselves and their relationships. In terms of clinical style, clients experience my patience and compassion but know that I’ll persistently challenge them to create and capitalize on opportunities for growth. We make use of insights from interactions between us to explore how you might stay stuck in relational or behavioral patterns that hold you back. Our working relationship is grounded in collaboration with a dynamic that's neither passive listening nor super-structured. My style is personable (within professional boundaries) and not overly ‘clinical’ or rigid. If my style and background seem to fit your needs, send me a message request through my website or call me and let’s connect! I look forward to hearing from you :)

How I Work With Clients:
I believe all human beings move naturally towards self mastery and belonging. Early trauma, developmental hurts, grief and bad luck disturb our wholeness and full potential. We are caught in protective layering of negativity, pain and self defeating behaviors. This state of disconnection with happiness and full embodiment is what brings people into my office. Who am I? I am a deeply empathetic and authentic person. I have a sense of humor. I am inquisitive about my client's journeys. In the rich ground of the therapeutic relationship historical wounding can be reworked and a new sense of self can flourish. I amalgamate techniques of guided imagery, mind/body awareness, active meditation and EMDR. I facilitate the journey towards becoming fully awake and unburdened. The therapy hour becomes filled with possibilities and explorations.

How I Work With Clients:
I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the very foundation of any effective psychotherapy. Establishing rapport and trust is central to the work I do. My relational approach is in the service of helping clients feel safe enough to explore their feelings and express them as they gain comfort in the therapy. I have almost thirty years of experience providing individual psychotherapy, and have been working specifically with students at UCD for the past twenty years. My training is in psychodynamic, relational psychotherapy and my approach is to be interactive in the therapy process. I have learned over the years that ultimately what brings a person to therapy has to do with having been wounded in a significant relationship, past or present. It is in the process of bringing the experience to light, making feelings conscious, understanding them better, and grieving when necessary allows healing to happen. This process happens within the context of the therapeutic relationship.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DR. CONNOR ONLY PROVIDES PSYCHODIAGNOSTIC EVALS--SHE DOES NOT DO THERAPY. I am a neuropsychologist—a licensed psychologist who specializes in brain-behavior relationships. I work with individuals who are experiencing difficulties with succeeding in their academic, employment, and personal lives due to problems related to ADHD, autism spectrum, learning disabilities, PTSD, brain injury and concussion—and co-occurring problems such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive behaviors. Neuropsychological evaluation includes tests of attention, concentration, language, visual spatial abilities, memory, executive abilities, and emotional functioning. An evaluation helps to identify cognitive and emotional strengths and weaknesses, establish a diagnosis to qualify for disable student services, and guide treatment for personal, educational, and vocational needs. Together, we work to create a plan to help you succeed in your life.

I also do a lot of therapy focusing on relationship issues. I like working with clients who want to be active in their therapy, and are interested in identifying and working on goals and change. I have worked in quite a variety of settings with lots of different kinds of people and issues over the course of my career, so I have some familiarity with most kinds of issues that can arise. I find working with University students to be interesting and satisfying, because students are going through a period of rapid change and personal development, which I remember to be challenging but also rewarding.

I have worked with UC Davis students as a psychology doctoral intern (MIP-Academic track), CAN Counselor (serving the Cross-Cultural Center), and College Counselor. I have received extensive training in college student mental health. My work is guided by values of authenticity, cultural awareness/humility, interconnectedness, and people’s pursuit of wholeness. I am invested in supporting healing and providing compassionate, culturally relevant, and evidence-based mental health services for diverse UC Davis students. I use approaches that promote healthy and transformative masculinity, help people develop and sustain healthy relationships, assist folks in integrating past traumas to have the ability to be more present in daily life, and address the mental health impact of intersecting social oppressions. Third-wave, cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal theoretical frameworks inform my approach to psychotherapy. I work with clients from a strength-based, multicultural perspective. I am also trained in teaching yoga and mindfulness practices. Additionally, I have specialized experience working with transgender, gender non-conforming, and genderqueer students, as well as, working with students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, pansexual. How I Work With Clients:
How I’m Different. You won’t have to spend endless time or frustrating energy explaining yourself, justifying who you are as a person or how you see the world. You will be understood, seen and celebrated. This will allow you to have a strong and meaningful therapeutic relationship that is vital to you tackling challenging and sensitive issues. I’ve devoted many years to reaching out to and working with those who feel like outsiders—The LGBT community, people of color, immigrants, substance abusers. I have also devoted much of my professional time working with men. I believe that these experiences enable me to reach out to both outsiders and men—groups that don’t see themselves represented (enough) in the therapeutic community. How I can Help. Develop powerful and meaningful insights into destructive behaviors that get in the way of you reaching goals or making positive change; Learn and utilize tools that support you to fight against anxiety, depression, anger or whatever else life has thrown at you. Begin the journey of exploring, better understanding and utilizing your own personal/powerful qualities that are best suited to tackling difficult or painful challenges. How you will feel. Empowered, connected and even transformed. Why? Because when all parts of you are fully seen and supported you can explore your feelings, understand yourself as well as others and take risks. When you uncover and embrace your own personal power you will feel braver, confident, more resilient and alive. How I Work With Clients:
Supporting people through difficult times has been a passion of mine for many years. I believe in personal and professional development through self-awareness and mindful living. My approach in offering therapy is integrative and draws on elements from several psychotherapeutic models. My philosophy guides an approach to treatment that is tailored to individual client needs. The therapy, however, typically involves fostering the cultivation of self-compassion and self-acceptance through the practice of Maitri (unconditional friendliness toward oneself). For this, a foundational practice involves learning how to be “comfortable with the uncomfortable,“ which creates opportunities for resilience, joy, understanding, and clarity.

How I Work With Clients:
Because everything we do happens here and now, whether it is reflecting on the past, anticipating the future, or simply engaging in the present, how we organize our moments greatly determines how satisfied and happy we are. Gestalt Therapy is based on the experimental present moment to serve this aim. Through the awareness continuum and other techniques, I help interested participants develop a stronger sense of themselves and their surroundings, and most importantly, how they get in the way of life’s natural rhythm and flow. My clients invariably grow a deeper acceptance of who they are and thereby become freer to express their authentic selves in accordance with the requirements of the moment. This, I believe, is the foundation for true happiness and deep contentment.

How I Work With Clients:
I am a Los Angeles based psychotherapist and counselor committed to supporting my clients on their journey of learning and personal growth. My areas of focus include working with adults who are facing difficult life transitions or facing challenges in their relationships. I earned my Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. My clinical experiences range from providing individual psychotherapy to adults in outpatient clinics, and crisis intervention and group psychotherapy with adults and adolescents in inpatient psychiatric hospitals. I have also worked with our homeless population across LA County, providing outreach, brief psychotherapy, and referrals to community resources and mental health services. My approach when working with all clients is client-centered and strengths-based. I value the person-in-environment perspective, so I can better understand my clients and their mental health in the context of their environment, and not just through their behavior and psyche.

How I Work With Clients:
Wherever you are in your life's journey, know that there are those who have been in your place, are in your place, and will be in your place; it just looks and feels differently for everyone. Whether it is depression, anxiety, loss, relationships, identity, trauma, or something presently unidentified, we all face moments where we feel overwhelmed, stuck, and not fully ourselves. My aim is to help you increase awareness of your emotions and how you relate to others. Together we'll discover ways of being that are healing, empowering, and restoring while providing either the acceptance or change you desire. I work with adolescents and adults through talk therapy while also utilizing creative interventions as needed. By using verbal and non-verbal methods of exploration, we are expanding our language of expression. I believe that in the right language your story will unfold. In the right space, you'll feel comfortable enough to unfold it. Whether therapy is new or familiar, I take my time to know you and to co-create the necessary safety for exploration. I value our relationship and honor walking with you during this phase of your journey.

How I Work With Clients:
Have you gone through a troubling experience? Is it difficult to move on in the aftermath? Maybe, it feels as if you are always going through challenging life experiences, or a lifetime of distress? Are you ready to do something about it, maybe even desperate to? I’d love to help you on this path. I understand that one of the hardest things to do can be to ask for help and be willing to receiving it. I want to help. When you work with me, I bring my whole self to the room for you. I show up with my education, training and professional experience, as well as the wealth of personal, human, life experiences that make me who I am. I have years of experience working with trauma in many presentations. Whether it’s a history of childhood abuse, an assault, an accident, relational violence or abuse, or maybe it’s something difficult to even put into words. Sometimes our deepest sense of distress has no specific incident that we can pinpoint. Instead, it is our beliefs about our self or others that seems to interfere with our happiness. I believe lasting change comes when a person is ready and willing to do deep work and look inward. To help with this work I use multiple specialized techniques including a focus on emotion, our early attachment relationships, mindfulness, emotional coping strategies, and strategies for desensitization of triggers and trauma memories including EMDR and trauma focused CBT. If you are ready, so am I.

How I Work With Clients:
I believe that stories and beliefs provide lenses through which we see and experience the world. Each "reality" is unique. When one is hindered in their ability to work, play, or love it may be due to hunger for more nourishing stories and beliefs. I also believe in love as curative, so therapy is about removing obstacles to intimacy, with yourself and others, which often involves grieving and facing fears. I love my clients and use our relationship to push and support you in exploring more vulnerable and authentic ways of being. The environment I create is caring, challenging, accepting, and honest. There is room for humor, despair, and mistakes. Sessions tend to be half talking and half improv, drawing on drama and art therapies, conversations with parts of yourself, whatever it takes to bring your issues alive in the room. “Florie is the ultimate nurturer. She has a remarkable ability to honor my struggles and empathize in a very passionate and specific way with what hurts. Simultaneously, she sees and believes in my gifts with such a beckoning encouragement that it’s almost like she is summoning them forth. I highly recommend Florie to anyone who could use some deep loving support to heal old wounds and clear a path to serving more fully in the world.” –Troy Dayton, CEO, ArcView Group, Interchange Counseling Institute Co-Counseling Client

Working from a psychodynamic approach, I aspire to help individuals navigate though difficulties in their life, helping them understand themselves better, develop healthier coping mechanisms, address immediate crisis issues and obtain necessary additional resources to help them quickly resume a healthier level of functioning. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with students at UCD, as well as at other institutions for the past 20 years. How I Work With Clients:
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a private practice in Davis, California. I received a Masters in Counseling Psychology from California Institute of Integral Studies in 2012. I feel honored to work with clients of all ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, socio-economic groups, physical abilities, and religious and spiritual beliefs who want to overcome behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that get in the way of their ability to live the life they want. I am Trans-friendly. Bringing creative experiences into therapy sessions can be beneficial because they help us to go deep and often serve as bridges between conscious and unconscious parts. That said, I tailor sessions to each unique client. For some people, straight talk therapy is best. I am trained in Trauma-Focused CBT and other evidence-based modalities, as well as Brainspotting, Play Therapy, Sand Play, Depth work, and Bereavement counseling. Personal growth and creativity have always been central to my life. After graduating from UC Davis with a degree in English Studies (which was a fantastic adventure in itself), I fulfilled a childhood dream (and stepped outside of my comfort zone) by creating and running the cafe "Delta of Venus" in Davis, California. My friend, Audrey and I created DOV largely because we wanted to establish a safe place for people who might feel marginalized. Please feel free to contact me here or call me at 530.507.8647 or email ruth@ruthfankushentherapy.com for a free 20-minute consultation by phone to see if we're a good fit.

How I Work With Clients:
I see you and know you’re hurting. Thank you for looking for support and being ready to show up for yourself. Everyone needs a cheerleader and at times, a guide through life. Personally, it took me time to ask for help and I am so glad that I did. Through therapy you can learn how to trust your instincts, bring awareness to habitual patterns, and reshape coping skills that are no longer serving you. I invite you to explore your inner nature and fine tune your resiliency skills as you navigate the ever-changing, beautiful world around you. With the use of creativity, humor and mindfulness I am confident we will meet your goals. I am excited to support you on your continued journey towards radical self love and joy. I specialize helping those looking to increase self confidence, decrease anxiety and depression, develop interpersonal skills, and heal from past traumas (emotional, physical, and sexual). Are you learning to set boundaries, healing from generational trauma, or needing to get out in nature? Or are you exploring gender identity, non binary identity, sexual orientation, inter-sectional identities, a new career, recent move, unemployment, or just feeling stuck? If so, I think we would be a great fit. I earned a Master’s degree in 2012 from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, with a focus in Expressive Art Therapy and other evidenced-based, trauma informed modalities. I have practiced extensively in community clinics and consider my consumers to be my best teachers. I specialize in a gentle, person-centered approach, striving to make each session comfortable, collaborative, creative, and restorative.

How I Work With Clients:
My work is active, compassionate, and collaborative. I enjoy working with clients who want to have a deeper understanding of themselves to be able to make positive changes. I work with couples and individuals to create a relationship that feels safe. I help my clients gain a deeper understanding, that reveals alternative choices and a path to building more connected and meaningful relationships with themselves and within other important relationships in their lives. I also help my clients build on their strengths as I work with them supportively to attain their relationship and personal growth goals. While I primarily work from an attachment theoretical orientation, I integrate complimentary interventions to offer a personalized approach tailored to each of my clients needs. I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF). I have had intensive training in the areas of shame resiliency, authenticity, self-compassion, and wholehearted living based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. This work reflects my own commitment and values to live wholeheartedly and use this approach in my psychotherapy work. I am originally from Israel and Sweden and have always felt curious and drawn to learning about people’s unique stories. I believe that people have tremendous resilience and that healing and growth happens in a safe connected relationship such as with a compassionate and skillful therapist.

How I Work With Clients:
Anxiety, depression, grief, loss, and ruptures in relationships are among the many issues that rob us of our happiness and well-being. I have over 15 years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults in therapy. I see therapy as a sacred space to work through the underlying issues that keep us stuck in our suffering. I deeply enjoy working along side individuals and families as they come to find healing from old wounds and a better sense of identity, peace, happiness and fulfillment. I especially enjoy working with college students, adults and couples. Anxiety and depression effect many people and can take specific support to overcome. Many factors cause anxiety and depression. Often developmental transitions (going to college), family history, or current painful losses or relationships can trigger these reactions. I am comfortable working with the many factors that create symptoms. Among the most dynamic and often stressful time periods of life are during developmental transitions. I am passionate about working with young adults/college students through those transitions. Often during transitions at any stage, relationships change or end, new symptoms arise, and discomfort increases. I enjoy working with people through these changes.

How I Work With Clients:
I specialize in working with young adults struggling with depression and anxiety and with Highly Sensitive People (HSP). As an HSP myself, I am well acquainted with both the challenges and the strengths that come with this personality trait, including how depression and anxiety can take HSPs on a roller coaster ride. (If you're wondering what the heck an HSP is, check out my website.) I strongly believe that people are social beings and that, as such, we get better through connection and support. I believe isolation contributes to or worsens a lot of challenges, and I think that by the time people seek therapy they’ve been trying really hard to solve their problems on their own but feel stuck or unsure about what else to try. Often, we may think we’re so alone or so broken or like no one has ever been through this before, but that’s not true. We can work together to broaden your perspective, your tools for coping and your options for health and well-being. When you work with me, you know you have someone in your corner. You're not alone in your struggles and you have help in fighting for yourself. You don't have to face problems alone anymore. If you’re thinking this sounds right for you, let’s talk today. (I offer in-person and online therapy.)

How I Work With Clients:
I have been working with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families for over 15 years. I conceptualize cases from a psychodynamic framework, but utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt, and mindfulness interventions to help clients more immediately utilize their internal and external resources. I work effectively with a variety of client issues, however PTSD, trauma, anxiety, attachment issues, and depression represent a large portion of my case load. I have very little experience working with eating disorders. I work with family, individual and coparenting issues around divorce. I am currently being trained in the Daring Way (projected completion date November 2017. I am a fairly optimistic person, and encourage my clients to find, notice, and cultivate their own reasons to be grateful and to develop robust lives. I am (sometimes) a half-marathon, triathlon athlete and ran track and field at Chico State. I was also a seasonal firefighter for Cal Fire for 7 seasons. I think I draw on that back ground to accept current functioning and exercise new techniques for living and relationship. I have two school aged children and work part time (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays).

How I Work With Clients:
My style is collaborative and client centered, with an emphasis client's strengths and unique abilities. My goal is to create a supportive, nurturing environment where clients feel comfortable being their full selves and exploring issues and challenges that may be blocking them from feeling fulfilled. In the first session, I make time for clients to tell me about themselves and what is bringing them into therapy. I strive to understand present challenges through a cultural lens, paying close attention to client's multiple identities (race/ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, ability status, age and nationality), current relationships, earlier experiences, life roles, goals and obstacles. I focus a great deal on who clients are in relationship to themselves and others, which includes an exploration of the impact of both past and present relationships in their life. This explorations helps to uncover core beliefs clients have about themselves, their values, and needs around connection. I also use my relationship with clients as a means to gain deeper insight into patterns emerging in the room which may also be evident outside of the therapy room. Finally, I explore the unique story(ies) clients are telling themselves about their life circumstances and, when necessary, rewrite portions of this story to be more congruent with the life a client desires, leading to greater authenticity and connection to the strengths and gifts they possess. I am aware that therapy should not use a "one size, fits all" approach, so I will be sure tailor therapy to client's specific needs and regularly check in about how the process is going, incorporating other interventions when necessary.

How I Work With Clients:
My role as a therapist is to establish a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship with my clients. This is done by demonstrating compassion, acceptance, and encouragement in the work we do together. The "connection" that is established between the therapist and client is the foundation for change. I use an integrative treatment approach which provides me with the ability to make systematic and appropriate use of the best interventions from different theories. This flexibility allows me to tailor my approach for each of my clients. My focus in therapy is to help my clients gain a better understanding of themselves as individuals, and as family members, friends, and partners or spouses. Together we will work to clarify and/or establish goals and values, develop new skills and strategies for better understanding and communication, and learn new ways of dealing with stress and anxiety, and other emotional problems.

The Auburn-Davis Center for DBT is a comprehensive DBT program that provides DBT Skills Training Group, Individual DBT therapy and coaching calls. DBT is a skills based treatment for people who have difficulty managing strong emotions and impulsivity. Although the treatment was orignally developed to work with chronic suicidality, it has now been generalized to help with many other issues such as anxiety, depression, and substance abuse. The program is aimed at helping people learn and practice new ways of coping with life’s challenges and as Dr. Marsha Linehan says, “to build a life worth living”. The program is 18 weeks long and we accept new people every six weeks. There is a Young Adult Group on Mondays at 5:00. Please contact Dr. Susn Landes for more information.

How I Work With Clients:
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and I specialize in seeing adults, children, and adolescents. I believe strongly in meeting clients where they are at and taking a collaborative approach to meeting the treatment goals of therapy. I know for some, it can be anxiety provoking to seek therapy, and I strive to create an environment that is warm and focused on the issues that matter to the client. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Sociology, and then went to Oxford University and got my Masters in Evidence Based Social Intervention. I then got my Masters in Clinical Psychology from SF State, and became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in June of 2017. My orientation is psychodynamic, but I also believe that one size does not fit all, that it is important to tailor therapy to the needs of the client. I believe in the power of empathy, and I also provide direct feedback to clients. I have significant experience dealing with trauma.

We are a small group of pre-licensed and licensed clinicians. We welcome everyone and offer services in English and in Spanish. How I Work With Clients:
My work with clients involves creating a comfortable and relaxed environment to allow for open and honest discussion about the very personal reasons why you are seeking therapy. I do not feel that one approach or intervention works with every person; that perspective takes away from our uniqueness and personal experiences. I do find that our early relationships often shape our world view and can sometimes lead to unhealthy lifestyle patterns. I employ an integrated, prescriptive approach that is tailored to the person seeking treatment. This usually involves incorporating evidence based interventions and best practice guidelines.

How I Work With Clients:
Therapy is a process that offers individuals the opportunity to expand their lives. I believe that a safe, and empathic therapeutic relationship is where much of our growth takes place. It is here that I intend to meet the clients' belief system and cultural identity to facilitate growth. I have had the opportunity to live and work on three continents and travel extensively, which often affords me a small window of experience into others' worlds. I will guide and empower you on your journey to learn to create change and experience your relationships and life transitions in a more productive and satisfying manner. We will work together in a self-directed growth process. To create change I believe in a holistic approach to therapy. My focus is the body, mind, spirit and its integration to create a balanced person and a fulfilling life. I have found over the years that utilizing a variety of approaches to gather information and connect with clients is most effective. We have different learning styles and because of this, to make the most of therapy, I work eclectically; e.g. family systems theory, cognitive, mind/body awareness; mindfulness, breathe work, yoga postures, etc. I recognize that each of us is unique with different needs in our therapeutic growth process.

How I Work With Clients:
In my practice, I specifically consider “where” a person is in his or her life as a starting point in the journey toward self empowerment and healing. My approach is integrative and tailored to fit the individual needs of the person who is looking to make changes in their life. I believe that anyone who has the courage to reach out for counseling also has the ability to change their life in positive ways. Attachment theory informs my belief that as human beings we all require safe, secure, meaningful relationships with each other. And, the most important aspect of the counseling relationship for me is in the collaborative nature of the work. I have always believed that the answers to life's most perplexing problems lie within. I incorporate mindfulness into most aspects of the therapeutic process and have observed how much this can help individuals lead a more meaningful and purposeful life.

How I Work With Clients:
College is an exciting time in life with many new opportunities. It is often a time when people get to make their own choices, explore new interests and meet new people. It can also be a time of uncertainty and change which can feel overwhelming. Balancing new responsibilities, living independently and creating a social group can be stressful. Students can often feel alone, isolated, and disconnected from others. I believe that everyone has a genuine need to feel valued and connected. I also believe that connection is the foundation in our lives. Exploring positive ways to cope with stress, understand emotions and build healthy connections is critical for success in college. I have over 25 years of experience working with children, adolescents, college students and adults. I worked on a college campus for 4 1/2 years helping students with life transitions, being the first in their family to attend college, social isolation, relationship conflicts, family difficulties, anxiety, OCD, depression, grief and loss, body image, eating disorders, LGBTQ, sexual assault, sexual abuse, PTSD and other trauma. I provide a safe and comfortable space for students to explore their concerns through the use of talk therapy, art, journaling, metaphors, guided imagery, and tools for managing their emotions and making positive changes in their lives.

How I Work With Clients:
When people are seeking a therapist they're looking for hope, they're looking for change, they're looking for answers to problems that have become confining for them. Sometimes it's their child whose behavioral choices have become too much to handle, sometimes it's a relationship with a spouse, or a future spouse, that needs some outside assistance or verification. I take the focus off the person and put it on the problem, and then I present alternative frameworks and solutions. I don't make the choice, you do; but I'll show you choices you might not have thought were available. I am an active therapist focused on success. You are not here to talk about your problems, you're here to solve them, and I understand that. I will help you reframe your individual, couple, family and parenting problems productively and then empower you with skills to solve them If you're looking for extra support through a challenging situation, ready to learn how to use your personal and relationship strengths to succeed, or just moving in a new direction and a little uncertain, I look forward to working with you to conquer your fears and achieve your goals. Call or email me for a free individual, couples or family therapy consultation today. I am available Saturdays as well as evenings to accommodate your schedule.

How I Work With Clients:
Hello and welcome to my practice! My name is Ema Miille and I am an Associate Clinical Social Worker located in Davis, California under the supervision of Loriene Honda, Ph.D., Ed.M. I have lived in the community for 25 years and feel a strong sense of commitment and love for this area and the people who live here. While I initially thought I would work in a career far different from social work, once I found this field, I have never looked back. I received both a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Master of Social Work from Sacramento State. During my studies, I completed internships in residential mental health settings as well as Elementary and Jr. High schools. My career path has lead me to discover a passion for working with children, adolescents and adults, with a particular focus on issues surrounding self-worth such as anxiety, depression, shame and eating disorders. When working with children, I wholeheartedly believe in working alongside parents and that parents or other familial supports are an integral part of the therapy process. Whenever possible, I involve parents with by using a check-in before each session to ensure that we are working together as a team to help your child in the best way possible. I believe that we are all intrinsically worthy of love and belonging but understand that knowing that for ourselves is not always easy. I am here to help you rediscover and connect to your authentic self.

How I Work With Clients:
I have a specialization in working with college students. Prior to opening my private practice, my expertise in this area was honed over the past several years of training and work providing therapy and assessments at Pepperdine University, the University of Southern California, and the University of California, at Santa Cruz. I draw upon Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Feminist, Existential, Multicultural, and Cognitive Behavioral theories to inform my therapy work. I carefully consider each client’s needs and unique cultural perspective when creating an integrative treatment plan. I often emphasize the importance of gaining emotional insight while using more concrete strategies for skill building. I also enjoy including mindfulness and solution-focused approaches in much of my work. My approach to testing is designed to make the process comfortable and educational for the students and for any participating family members. I work with clients over multiple appointments - none longer than four hours each – to allow me to observe behavior and performance over a period of time. I focus on reinforcing strengths, and outlining strategies for improving areas of challenge. I will also assist students in coordinating with the Services to Students with Disabilities Department should additional support services be necessary for promoting academic success. I offer comprehensive assessments which focus on understanding of functioning related to cognition, learning, executive functioning, and emotional well-being.

How I Work With Clients:
Hello, I am Judy Moore. I bring an exciting range of life experience and professional training to the therapy room. Having been raised in a bi-cultural, European, minority driven household with persons with disabilities, I grew up treasuring diversity and holding respect for each person’s uniqueness. I am aware that I learned my greatest lessons from people most different from me and openly try to create an environment in which you can explore who intrinsically you are. I honor the stories and narrations you share with me in therapy and believe that the slow formation of trust between you and me creates a sacred ground for healing. Through that relationship built on trust and respect, you will find a way to more confidently navigate your life in a calmer way. I specialize in exploring core issues that have a profound influence on the way you think, feel and behave throughout your life and in your relationships. With a loving heart and gentle prompting, my goal is to help guide you to a life of greater ease and comfort that feels more fulfilling. I am committed to helping you grow in a supportive and encouraging environment.

How I Work With Clients:
Throughout the course of my career, I have trained at numerous clinics and agencies that serve children, families, and adults—working both individually and with groups. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked as a Registered Nurse. My nursing experience informs my therapeutic practice. Bodies matter. I’ve learned to listen deeply to what comes up in our bodies as well as in our minds. Tending the whole person is essential to our flourishing. Yoga, running, dancing, meditation, and other forms of body work is essential for integrating our human experience and achieving wholeness. For the past fifteen years, I’ve worked in private practice with adults—individually and in group therapy. In addition to my private practice, I founded the first perinatal mental heath conference, focusing medical and mental health professionals in the Central Valley on the struggles women face in and around childbirth. I have a particular interest in the transitions we face. College students, the newly married, divorced, widowed, retired, those facing job loss, financial instability, parenting issues, illnesses, and relational challenges—all find themselves struggling to find stable ground. These are moments, not only of often-bewildering transition, but of the possibility of transformational change and for finding new ways to flourish in life, love, and work. Often people come to me who are not in transition, but find themselves feeling flat, disconnected, and longing to feel alive, vibrant, and engaged, but not knowing how to get there. In therapy, we not only work with self-care strategies, but we also learn to listen deeply to what’s going on inside you—the dark, the light, and the longing that can lead you toward transformation. My Approach . . . Begin the journey . . . Experiencing vitality, a sense of meaning, worthiness, belonging, and empowerment is core to a life well lived. But that doesn’t mean these things are automatic or come easily. Life is a journey. And with this journey comes an invitation into wholeness. Over the course of our lives things happen to us that hurt us, bewilder us, and hold us from the flourishing life we desire for ourselves and the relationships that give us value, the work that gives us meaning, and the interests that give us a sense of wellbeing. Listen deeply . . . Everyone of us has experienced some kind of challenge, small or big, that impacts our journey, frustrates our goals, and affects our sense of aliveness. Depression, stress, anxiety, relational problems, addictions, shame, and confusion can bring us to the point of realizing that we want and need to change. This is what relational psychotherapy is about. Therapy can help you explore who you are and how your experiences affect your sense of wellbeing. You can learn to love yourself, live authentically, enjoy healthier relationships, and contribute meaningfully to your community. Heal and grow . . . Therapy can help you flourish in life, love, and work. If you’re experiencing distress or struggling with a transition in your life or if you simply want to grow as a human being, therapy can help. Call me, we can explore how therapy may be the next step in your journey.

How I Work With Clients:
Many people come to me with stories of pain caused by the loss of human connection or relationships. The ability to recover from trauma and neglect is about connection, rebuilding trust and vulnerability. Healing involves returning to a place where you had a sense of security and trust with others but most importantly with yourself. Together we will build a therapeutic relationship that will allow growth, change and healing. I started my career 13 years ago working with children and families in schools and group homes. I have worked in hospice, hospitals and other mental health settings. I have extensive experience with grief and loss and relationship issues. I have lived in several countries, speak three languages and have an understanding of mental health culturally based. I work with individuals, age 14 on up, addressing issues of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, acculturation, adaptation, anger, fear, grief and loss. I also work with couples who desire better communication, improved sexual life and those considering divorce. I have a Psychodynamic approach to treatment. I see patients via teleconferencing.

I work from a feminist therapy and multicultural framework and always consider the larger cultural forces and structures that impact both mental and physical health. My main interest is assisting clients in living more fulfilling and balanced lives both mentally and physically. We then work on taking action that will move you towards living a more fulfilling, healthy and happy life. I am engaged and interactive and like to be goal focused in our sessions. How I Work With Clients:
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a second Masters in Clinical Child Psychology. I am a former Peace Corps Volunteer and elementary school teacher, and have more than thirty-five years of experience working with children, families, and adults. Over the last twenty-two years I have worked with many UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students, and in my current practice I see many graduate students studying in both the Humanities and STEM. I am familiar with school-related issues and most often address issues of stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, and personal or family relationships. My professional interest focuses on how past and current relationships and life events have an impact on our patterns of behavior, thoughts, and mood. Change arises when a strong therapeutic alliance has been formed and evidence-based approaches are used in an integrated manner. Three techniques for facilitation of change are emotional exploration of repetitive scenarios that underlie current problems (story or narrative), finding more accurate perceptions that are more here-and-now, objective, and multidimensional in understanding of self and others (via cognitive behavioral and/or psychodynamic interventions), and trying new behavioral responses (e.g., exposure to a feared situation such as social interactions) which are then evaluated and used for learning. These approaches are often blended but there can be a singular focus with a given client. Supplemental practices can be drawn from other perspectives: Physical Wellness (e.g., exercise, diet, sleep), Emotional Wellness (e.g., stress reduction, strengths and virtues), and Positive Psychology (e.g., gratitude journal, acts of kindness, mindfulness meditation, forgiveness).

How I Work With Clients:
I help clients identify the underlying beliefs shaping their lives and decide if these beliefs are serving them. Beliefs like: "My parents will only love me if I become a doctor" or "I don't know which path to choose so I won't choose one at all." We then decide if these beliefs are serving them or if they'd like to create new ones, such as: "I know my parents will love me if I change majors" or "I trust that whichever path I choose will teach me a lot." Identifying underlying beliefs allows clients agency over their stories, and often reveals peripheral addictions (such as overeating or overdrinking) that have been used to buffer. Clients often experience improvement of these addictive tendencies as well.

How I Work With Clients:
My initial goal when I meet new clients is to clarify with them why they are seeking my assistance. We work together to identify changes they want to see in their lives. Often finding new ways of approaching situations and relieving anxiety/stress can make a significant difference. Sometimes clients need concrete resources to help them achieve their goals. These resources can come in the form of learning new time management strategies or assertiveness techniques. Another resource is to utilize organizations on campus or in the Davis community. I frequently refer my clients to organizations or activities in the community that I think may be of help in achieving their objectives. In general, my approach to working with my clients would be considered coaching. It involves learning new skills, practicing, getting feedback and more practice. The coaching approach can be successful in many areas of life. It is the one approach that can provide immediate results. I very much enjoy working with students and I will be honored to be your provider. Sincerely, Marilyn Perry, PhD.

How I Work With Clients:
My approach to psychotherapy is collaborative and relational; that is to say: I value and emphasize our working relationship and your intuitive sense of what is helpful to you and what is not. It is important to me that you feel accepted, heard, and understood in your experience. My therapeutic style could also be described as strengths-based, meaning I am attentive to your strengths; I highlight and reinforce my clients' strengths and help you build on them. Additionally, I work to be transparent with my clients and support your understanding of the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment process. My hope is to support you in gaining the insight, skills, courage, and confidence to take steps toward healing and more fulfillment in your life. I incorporate Person-Centered Counseling, concepts and skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and the Seeking Safety curriculum, values exploration, and Motivational Interviewing into my work with clients. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families, and I am passionate about supporting clients working through trauma, grief and loss, addiction and substance use concerns, chronic pain, illness, health concerns, and life transitions. As of Summer 2023, I am only offering Telehealth therapy via secure videocall and hope to provide in-person services by the fall; please see my website for updates.

How I Work With Clients:
The majority of my professional experience has been with college students at public and private colleges across the U.S., and I absolutely love to work with college students. While I consider myself a “generalist,” my specialty areas broadly include relationship concerns, multicultural issues, and mindfulness. I am comfortable speaking in Spanish, and provide therapy in Spanish upon request. I also have special experience working with men and masculinity. Check out my website for more information about my specialty areas and me! As a therapist you can expect me to be transparent and unconditionally supportive, but can also expect that I will challenge you to stretch, grow, and to consider new perspectives and ideas. Although I adapt my approach to best meet your needs, there are some overarching values that guide my work. First, I believe that a sense of connectedness is of fundamental importance in people’s lives, and that it is through relationships that we are able to heal and grow. Therefore, I will likely bring focus to your past and present relationships, including, when appropriate, our relationship as therapist and client. Additionally, we will likely work to build awareness and understanding of your thoughts, feelings, and values. When helpful, we will work to modify your behaviors such that they are increasingly consistent with your identified values. Overall, I strive to help individuals develop and utilize their strengths, increase their healthy coping strategies, and foster greater self-awareness, compassion, and acceptance.

How I Work With Clients:
If you choose to take the risk of coming to therapy I will encourage you to invite your curiosity, compassion and immediate experience to help guide you on your journey and achieve your life goals. I will facilitate safe space in my office to support you as you explore. As you allow more vulnerable experiences to arise and you process your feelings, you may have greater understanding and relief from your emotional pain. This relief often allows for space for you to feel more positive feelings of hope, love, satisfaction and appreciation for more intimate connections with others. I will also use my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and trauma work (EMDR) to help you navigate the rough emotional seas that may get stirred up as we travel together. In addition, I am a Diamond Heart student in a mindful/meditation school since 2003. I am also in a teacher training program of the Diamond Approach since 2012. This training strengthens my capacity to be fully present with you and gives me knowledge and experience to help you learn to be more mindful, present and inquire as you discover your life. I also take Aetna insurance

How I Work With Clients:
I believe therapy is an effective and powerful resource for healing and growth. Let go of unhelpful coping patterns that no longer serve you and keep you feeling stuck. Sometimes the unknown can make you feel anxious, but staying in that difficult place prevents you from opening yourself to greater possibilities. I am supportive but will certainly challenge you in working through unhelpful coping and thinking habits so you can create a life that is more authentic and meaningful to you. I feel honored to help facilitate individuals through their healing and growth process. I specialize in anxiety disorders, OCD, self-esteem, depression, stress, trauma/PTSD, and food and body image issues. I've worked in various treatment settings for both anxiety and eating disorders including Partial Hospitalization Programs and Intensive Outpatient Programs.

Additionally, for clients with limited resources I make use of a sliding scale fee arrangement. I enjoy working with UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students as they find their way through the challenges and stresses of school, work, family and relationships. I find fulfillment in working with students dealing with grief and those encountering difficult life transitions, as well as those struggling with depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I have an integrative therapeutic orientation that is relational, nurturing and supportive while encouraging insight, tuning-in to ones needs, centering in the moment, and building coping resources. How I Work With Clients:
I view the relationship between myself as therapist and you as client as extremely important. I see my role as participant/observer/facilitator in a joint effort to understand both past and present in a process whose goal is to facilitate contact with your inner life. In the search for expression of your real self, I assist you in exploring underlying motivation and meaning, as well as feelings and experiences, which all further your understanding of your own process and broaden consciousness. By exploring family of origin history together, we can discover patterns of intimate relationship interaction which may be repeating themselves in present relationships. This enhancement of the capacity for self reflection in conjunction with the development of a more healing experience with me as therapist enables you, the client, to be more connected to yourself and to others. I have gained substantial experience and expertise in working with both younger and older adults in transition in my private practice over the past 26 years. Transition times are times of change in which the shedding of an old identity and trying on a new one can be painful, along with a sense of isolation and alienation and feelings of inadequacy. I view the relationship between myself as therapist and you as client as extremely important. I work with individuals and couples who may find themselves holding back in their lives, repeating the same patterns in each of their unsatisfying relationships, leaving them feeling lonely or unseen, who may be overwhelmed or and confused by a life crisis or transition. I am honored to accompany each client on a journey toward wholeness and peace of mind. Having traveled extensively, I have a deep appreciation of other cultures and languages.

How I Work With Clients:
You are the expert in your experience, so the first phase of therapy is you unfolding your story. The next stage is unveiling patterns of behavior and recognizing the developmental stage when that pattern developed, and why. Then comes the question—does that pattern still work for you? Was it formed as a reaction to stress? What blocks your progress, or makes you uncomfortable around others? If those blocks were reduced, what strategies can be created to reduce anxiety, depression, or a sense of overwhelm, and how will that change your responses in stressful situations? That’s the general structure of the therapy, and it’s individualized by starting with all the unique factors of ‘youness’ and making a path towards goals. How this works: True understanding of all the family, cultural and developmental influences on the development of the self brings compassionate wisdom. That is the first stage in a dual awareness of being both inside and outside of the emotions, as if empathically parenting a child. Self empathy is profound and necessary. From inside the emotion you get validation and from the outside you increase perspective. That alternation accelerates the ability to grow, and emotional growth means outgrowing ‘stuck’ patterns. Therapy is for finding relief from old habits that are too small to let you grow and achieve a rightful sense of freedom to take up space in the world. There might be some ‘ah ha’ moments in therapy along with the work of building new mental-emotional muscles; also, like any other muscle building, it takes time and commitment. I willing offer guidance and support along the way, and welcome your inquiries.

How I Work With Clients:
My philosophy of psychotherapy is humanistic at core, focusing on personal growth over pathology, diversity instead of uniformity, and understanding rather than judgement. My job is to create a safe and trusting atmopshere where your inner thoughts and feelings can be shared and examined, where I can meet you with empathy and authenticity, seeing the world through your eyes and reflecting it back to help you see yourself. Although I have extensive training in many therapuetic approaches, I use these without a fixed ideology. People grow in myriad ways and it is my job to find the theory that works for each individual rather than prescribing a set process for everyone. Nonetheless, I have learned that there are some common things that help all of us to be happy and fulfilled, so I share these with clients as they are relevant. Descartes said "I think therefore I am" but I believe we are because we feel. My therapeutic work is focused on helping others connect with their emotional lives and integrate the many different facets of themselves so that they can experience a more complete sense of self.

How I Work With Clients:
I specialize in working with patients suffering from anxiety and mood disorders. I work from a cognitive-behavioral theoretical orientation, which means looking at thought processes and behavioral patterns that may be creating and contributing to uncomfortable feelings. I see every individual I work with as unique, and work with my clients to create a collaborative treatment plan that is specific to their needs. I work from a brief therapy model (10-20 sessions), but also work with some clients for much longer if that is needed. I would like the referring clinician to contact me before the referral to discuss the case and determine with me the appropriateness of outpatient treatment. I conduct my own assessment process that takes two sessions before I sign a treatment contract with the patient. If outpatient work with me does not seem appropriate, I will contact the referring clinician and help the patient with other referral options.

How I Work With Clients:
I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental presence, working together with you to discover what blocks you from feeling at ease and satisfied with your life. I believe in accessing your inner wisdom to inform us what you need to heal and change. We work together to dissolve the blocks to freeing you to live with greater ease, authenticity, vitality, and joy. I integrate a number of approaches into my work, which I find move beyond the limitations of talk therapy. I am certified in EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR is a powerful method of resolving past disturbing experiences that continue to adversely impact current functioning. It is also used to build and strengthen the internal resources that you may not realize you already have. I also use EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique, which can quickly shift disturbing thoughts and feelings into more positive ones. And I provide sandtray therapy, which is a hands-on tool for expressing your experiences, gaining insight into them, and transforming them. Each of us has a unique path of self-discovery, change and healing. I have over 30 years' experience helping clients and would be honored to assist you on your path.

How I Work With Clients:
For the past 25 years, I've helped people just like you find ways to get on track with their lives. The challenges faced by people of color, immigrants, internationals, and LGBTQ+ are some of my specialties. Being an outsider is not what we want. We want to honor who we are and not lose ourselves to be accepted by others. My goal for you is to understand yourself and be able to take steps to feel the way you want to feel. You will learn different tools and techniques to use throughout your life, in various situations, that give you relief and help during difficult times. I am compassionate and patient. I’ll encourage you to overcome hurdles you can control and let go of ones you can’t control. We’ll work collaboratively and start with what’s happening now, break things down into manageable areas to work on. We’ll explore ways to increase your awareness and actions you can take which might be how you view things to your actual behaviors. I keep up with the latest science on evidenced based approaches, and leverage our current understanding of our whole body. You'll gain resilience to handle life’s challenges. I believe that we are creative, resourceful & whole... and sometimes, we just need a helping hand.

How I Work With Clients:
With over a decade of experience in the mental health field (community-based intensive in- home, court-mandated domestic violence treatment groups, faith-based counseling crisis counseling, school-based mental health, outpatient private practice, etc.), I enjoy helping others work towards having deeper, more meaningful thoughts, attitudes, behaviors and relationships. In my approach to treatment, I tend to incorporate psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, Bowenian and attachment therapy (particularly developmental trauma, looking at the long-term neuroaffective and social effects of misattuned attachments in our earliest childhood experiences), to name a few, for a more tailored approach to each individual's unique needs. My areas of special interest include childhood abuse recovery, trauma/PTSD, boundaries/communication, depression/anxiety, life transitions and codependency/addiction issues. My diverse background (including a Bachelor's degree in human development, teaching and public health experience, interest in nutrition and meditation) allows me to combine both professional education with both my life experiences and passions. I am trained in both Brainspotting (BSP) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy modalities, neurophysiological forms of trauma treatment shown to effectively reduce the psychological, physical and emotional symptoms caused by overwhelming events/memories. As a certified Prepare-Enrich Facilitator, I also support couples through in-depth premarital, marital and re-marital counseling. Currently, I run two intensive therapy treatment groups for women: Healing Connections for women struggling with codependency and unhealthy relationships, and Wounded Heart for women survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Go to Services for more information about these opportunities. Therapy groups I have facilitated in the past include 52-wk court-mandated domestic violence groups, high school anger management groups, Incredible Years Parenting groups and Incredible Years Social Skills Training groups for children. I believe that every individual not only has the potential for growth, but is resilient and able to discover what does and doesn’t work in his/her life (a process of ‘pruning’ and ‘fertilizing’), to negotiate life changes and to make healthier choices for more authentic living. My approach, in all of my counseling work, is systemic. This means we would examine issues and concerns in the context of the “bigger picture,” which includes the mind (thoughts, emotions, beliefs), body (genetics, physical health, lifestyle), soul (values, spirituality) and social (relationship to self and others). I place a large emphasis on the importance of balanced self-care, awareness, and personal accountability. I am a Clinical Fellow member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) and verified by Psychology Today. You can find me at Psychology Today's website. Outside of my passion for Marriage and Family Therapy and serving in the mental health community, I have a deep love for family, quality time with friends, my Christian faith, new sweet or savory recipes, road trip explorations, and the great outdoors (camping, hiking, rock climbing, and more)!

How I Work With Clients:
I provide therapy/counseling to adults, adolescents and children at my Midtown Sacramento office. I specialize in treating PTSD, depression, anxiety and couples issues. My experience as a therapist has taught me that there is no one way to do therapy, rather that therapy is a collaborative process where therapist and client identify treatment goals and best therapies to support reaching those goals together. My approach to therapy/counseling is interactive, client-centered and compassionate. During sessions I draw from many therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment theory, EMDR and minfulness therapies to decrease undesirable symptoms and improve the health of valued attachments. I have extensive training and experience in providing therapy to individuals with treatment resistant depression, anxiety, long-held unfulfilling behavioral patterns and relationship issues. I am EMDR certified and a full member of the national EMDR association. I enjoy practicing and teaching Mindfulness to clients in my practice. Mindfulness has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on negative thoughts, worry thoughts, anxiety/depression and feelings of detachment. I am particularly fond of Mindfulness Self-Compassion which aims to teach clients to respond mindfully and compassionately to pain and suffering. I myself am intentional about practicing Mindfulness Self-Compassion as a daily practice. I regularly participate in consultation with trusted colleagues and continue to develop my skill sets as a therapist in order to provide the most effective treatments to my clients.

How I Work With Clients:
Attachment theory, relational psychology and Jungian theory strongly influence my work. I believe that the growth of people, like the growth of plants and other animals, is a natural instinctual process that is sometimes interrupted by trauma or early deficits. Treatment involves the identification, exposition and healing of wounds, and the defensive coping strategies that develop from them, in a profoundly caring and intimate context. Cognitive behavioral techniques are often essential in arresting destructive behaviors but my deeper interest is exploring and integrating the pain and wounding from which the behaviors spring. From my perspective, psychology, in its truest form, is a literal translation of the word: the 'logos' word or reason, of the 'psyche' or soul.

How I Work With Clients:
A river of knowing runs through the core of every individual. I believe people make their best choices, and offer their best selves to the world, when they are able to hear its murmur. I bring an assortment of conventional and newer-age therapy perspectives to the task of helping people reconnect with their flow. Barring a crisis situation, I rely on my object-relations “listening-posture” to sketch out a hypothetical outline of the client’s relationship to his/her circumstance(s). Should the client decide to work with me following this initial assessment, I invite them to take the MBTI, which then allows me to introduce them to Jung’s concept of psychological type. I find that doing so often helps to “depathologize” a client’s understanding of his/her predicament, and, as a bonus, serves to highlight the collaborative nature of our journey together. Once connection has been established, my curiosity about the client and his/her concern becomes a guide-rope for the client’s curiosity about his/herself. In the course of our work, I utilize any number of a wide variety of interests, tools, and postures to develop both focus and reach. I am big on the psycho-educational function of therapy, as well as on therapy’s more existential, experiential, solution-focused, and/or brain-based interventions. I am a student of both Gendlin’s "Focusing" model and the "Emotional Freedom Technique" (‘tapping’) – each of which bolsters the mind/body’s capacity to right itself. Not all clients choose to fire up these innate 'gyroscopic' systems, but those who do often find that efforts to recover their inner knowing get turbo-charged. While I consider myself a generalist, I have a particular interest in working with those who feel (or are) marginalized for being “different”, and/or those who want to better understand them. Please feel free to call with questions. Thank you for your interest.

Currently I am paneled on Optum/UBH (and affiliates), BlueShield of California, Anthem BlueCross California, Magellan, Aetna, and Humana. I am currently on the faculty of UC Davis.
